Here is the list of new Senior Advocates of Nigeria (SANs) 2018. At its 133rd plenary session held today, 12 July 2018, the Legal Practitioners Privileges Committee (LPPC) conferred the prestigious rank of Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) on 31 Nigerian legal practitioners for the year 2018, pursuant to Section 5 of the Nigerian Legal Practitioners Act 1975, Chapter 11 of the Revised Edition of the Laws of the Federation of Nigeria 2004. Section 5(1) of the said Act provides: “Subject to subsection (2) of this section, the Legal Practitioners’ Privileges Committee established under subsection (3) of this section may by instrument confer on a legal practitioner the rank of Senior Advocate of Nigeria.”
This year’s conferment is contained in a press release of the Legal Practitioners Privileges Committee dated 12 July 2018, signed by Hadizatu Mustapha, the Secretary of the Legal Practitioners Privileges Committee, who is also the Chief Registrar of the Supreme Court of Nigeria. The press release states that the swearing-in ceremony of the 31 new Senior Advocates of Nigeria will take place on Monday, 24 September 2018, during the 2018-2019 New Legal Year of the Supreme Court of Nigeria.
The list of new Senior Advocates of Nigeria (SANs) 2018, which includes professors of law and one female legal practitioner, is as follows:
